How to Use a 9:16 Safe Zone Transparent PNG Overlay in CapCut & Premiere Pro

1. Select the review profile before downloading

Open the Safe Zone Checker and select the platform profiles you actually plan to review. The current TikTok, Reels, and Shorts overlays are transparent planning presets, not official permanent measurements for all placements. If the TikTok Shop bottom exclusion is relevant, enable it before exporting. Also decide whether you want the centered universal box visible. Its 900 by 1400 rectangle is a separate composition reference and is not wholly inside every platform boundary. The downloaded file should communicate a deliberate selection rather than an unexplained collection of lines.

You can load a preview image or video locally to judge the composition, but the overlay export contains the guide rather than that media. Keep the original footage in your editing project. Save the PNG with a descriptive local filename that includes its profile selection and date, such as review-tiktok-reels-1080x1920. The file does not establish that the live application uses those exact margins. Keep a separate production note recording the chosen settings, particularly when a team will reuse the overlay without access to the browser session that produced it.

2. Verify transparency and exact dimensions

Check that the exported asset is a PNG at 1080 by 1920 pixels. A screenshot of the checker is not equivalent: it can include browser controls, a scaled preview, or a solid background. An image viewer may display transparency as black, white, or a checkerboard, so the appearance of the background alone is not proof that the alpha channel is missing. Import the file over a colored clip in your editor and confirm that the underlying media remains visible outside and through the intended guide graphics.

Do not convert the guide to JPEG, which does not preserve transparency. Do not apply a background-removal or chroma-key effect to compensate for an incorrectly saved screenshot when the actual PNG export is available. Those repairs can damage thin guide lines and make the boundary difficult to inspect. Keep the guide at its original dimensions until you place it into the final sequence. If another application resizes it during import, inspect the asset properties and reset the transform before trusting any displayed coordinates.

3. Place the guide above the final CapCut composition

In CapCut desktop, open or create the editing project and import the original footage and exported PNG. Put the footage in the timeline, then place the guide on a higher visual track. CapCut's own overlay instructions describe importing media and layering an image above the main clip; exact panel names can vary by version and language. Set the project to the intended vertical ratio, align the guide to the full frame, and extend the still-image clip so it covers every moment you want to review.

Inspect the transform rather than assuming an automatic fit is correct. The overlay's outer bounds must match the sequence frame, not the visible edges of a cropped source clip. A guide shifted a few pixels can give false confidence about a narrow right-side allowance. Check the top-left and bottom-right alignment, then avoid moving the guide while adjusting the actual captions. If the editor offers track locking, use it for the review layer. On mobile, the equivalent workflow uses the image-overlay controls, but still requires the same full-frame alignment and duration checks.

4. Use a dedicated review track in Premiere Pro

Import the PNG into the Premiere project and place it on a video track above the final picture and graphics. In a matching 1080 by 1920 sequence, use full-frame alignment without a crop or independent horizontal stretch. The centered position is x equals 540 and y equals 960 when working in sequence-pixel coordinates. Check the actual Motion settings because inherited scaling, nested sequences, or a differently configured sequence can change what a nominal one-hundred-percent value means. Extend the still to cover the full sequence and give the track an unmistakable review-only name.

You can supplement the PNG with native monitor guides. Adobe documents enabling rulers through View > Show Rulers, adding a positioned guide through View > Add Guide, and locking them through View > Lock Guides. These are monitor alignment aids, whereas a PNG on a visible video track is actual sequence media that can be rendered. That distinction matters during export. Use native guides for repeatable alignment where convenient, but inspect and disable the imported PNG track explicitly before delivering the video.

5. Scale the guide uniformly and review the final nesting level

For a 720 by 1280 sequence, the scale factor is 720 divided by 1080, or two thirds. The same factor also maps 1920 to 1280, so the aspect ratio remains intact. A 350-pixel margin becomes approximately 233.33 pixels. If the horizontal and vertical factors differ, either the sequence is not 9:16 or the transform is distorting the guide. Do not fix that by dragging its sides independently. Confirm the output geometry first and use a profile designed for the actual delivery shape.

Apply the guide at the level that will be exported. If you place it inside a nested composition and then crop or scale that nest in a different master, the guide no longer describes the final frame. Keep a final review layer above the assembled sequence instead. Check that footage, captions, and graphic elements have already received their final transforms. A correct overlay cannot compensate for a downstream export crop or a platform reframing operation. Inspect the encoded output and the target publishing view after the layout is approved.

6. Review the moving content, not only a representative still

Scrub the longest caption, the largest animated scale, the lowest gesture, and the final CTA. Essential content should fit at its maximum visible extent, including text stroke, shadow, and animation overshoot. A subtitle's anchor point can sit within the reference while the last word extends into the interface band. Likewise, a character can start centered and step behind the right-side controls. The value of a timeline overlay is seeing these changes over time, so extend it through the full edit rather than reviewing only the opening frame.

Use the guide as a diagnostic layer rather than a composition cage. Background texture can extend into excluded bands, and decorative motion does not always need the same protection as a product name or spoken instruction. Prioritize what the viewer must understand. If a shared layout for several platforms makes the essential text too small, create platform-specific variants instead of continuing to shrink it. Label those variants clearly and keep the guide selection associated with each one, especially when the commerce layout differs from the standard profile.

7. Prevent the review grid from reaching the public upload

Before the final export, disable or remove the overlay's media track and play the timeline once to confirm it is gone. Export the delivery video, then inspect that file outside the editor. Check a frame where the guide's colored bands or labels were especially obvious during review. A hidden panel in the workspace does not necessarily disable a track, and an older export can be mistaken for the new one if filenames are reused carelessly. Keep a distinct review export and clean delivery export when collaborating.

Finally, check the clean file in the actual platform preview with the real description and relevant controls. The PNG is a planning reference, not a certification of current app behavior. Archive the overlay, selected settings, final sequence dimensions, and review date with the project. This makes future revisions much safer: you can recreate the same check without guessing which template was used. The finished deliverable is the clean video, while the PNG remains an internal aid that explains the layout decisions behind it.
